Smart phone, Smart TV, Smart Camera, and now it’s time for Smart Contact Lenses!!

The camera world has come a long way, since it was invented and built in 1975 by Steven Sasson as an engineer at Eastman Kodak. By the mid-2000s digital cameras had largely replaced film cameras, and higher-end cell phones had an integrated digital camera. By the beginning of the 2010s smart phones had an integrated digital camera. Now it’s time for some contact lens to have some integrated camera.

Yes you heard it right!

Google has invented a computerized contact lenses which will be integrated with a very tiny camera inside.That camera would snap pictures of whatever it is you’re looking at using a special blink pattern, and then send those snaps to a connected device.

The patent, which was reported by Patent Bolt, outlines a way that Google could fit a camera into a contact lens without drastically increasing its thickness. A camera on a contact lens could be used to collect data from users\’ surroundings, including light, colours, objects, faces and motion, according to the report. Patent Bolt also said that the camera could give users a wider view or also be used to zoom in, like a pair of binoculars.

Google Contact Lens is a smart contact lens project announced by Google on 16 January 2014. The project aims to assist people with diabetes by constantly measuring the glucose levels in their tears. Google applied for this patent developed in the Google X lab in late 2012, and it was published by the US Patent and Trademark Office earlier this month, according to Patent Bolt.

Furthermore, Google filed a patent on 11^th September 2013, regarding “Assembling Thin Silicon Chips on a Contact Lens” which is invented by James Etzkorn R&D Engineer @google. The patent application was published on 3^rd of April 2014.
