Multi-Year License Agreement

\"13127038085_1ecf767f7d_b\"InterDigital, Inca wireless research and Development Company recently announced that the company\’s patent licensing subsidiaries have entered into a patent license agreement with Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.  The royalty-bearing license agreement sets forth terms covering the sale by Samsung of 3G, 4G and certain future generation wireless products.

\”We are very happy to have resolved the licensing dispute with Samsung on mutually agreeable terms. This agreement with Samsung shows how our longstanding patent licensing framework and process can lead to effective, productive discussions and eventual resolution on fair and reasonable terms,\” said William J. Merritt, President and Chief Executive Officer of InterDigital.

The deal also sees an end to all pending litigation between the companies, including a case at the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

Earlier this year, WIPR reported that InterDigital had agreed to end another patent dispute, this time with Chinese phone manufacturer Huawei. The settlement ended a lawsuit InterDigital filed at the ITC that demanded exclusion orders which could have banned Huawei from importing potentially infringing products into the US.

For Samsung, this agreement is the second major patent dispute resolution in less than a year. In January Ericsson announced a major settlement with Samsung that ended all patent-related legal disputes between the companies. Also in January, Samsung signed a 10-year global cross-licensing agreement with Google.

Samsung, alongside Nokia and ZTE, was also targeted in the lawsuit.
